Ianthe

Ianthe was a member of the Order of the Ancients active in Greece in the fifth century BCE.

Biography

Ianthe was interested in an Isu artifact located in a vault hidden within a tomb in the hills of Kephallonia, but could not open the door leading to it. He then decided to hire Markos and Cadmus to retrieve the treasure from the vault, giving them a map but stealing it later to lead them where he wanted them. As Cadmus entered the tomb, Ianthe and his men sealed him in, rolling a boulder over the entrance.

Later, as Cadmus managed to not only open the door but also unlock the case where the Piece of Eden was kept, Ianthe and his men revealed themselves by clapping, with Ianthe thanking Cadmus while one of his men knocked him to the floor and took the dagger. As they left, they smashed a pot of oil on the way out, trapping Cadmus behind a wall of flames.

They headed for the nearby town, but Ianthe spotted Cadmus and ran from him. Cadmus caught up with Ianthe easily enough and jumped on top of him but not before he managed to draw the dagger, with one blade pointed towards him and another towards Cadmus. Cadmus managed to shift his body enough that he was injured, but not fatally so, while the other blade fatally wounded Ianthe. While dying, Ianthe said that he was "but a small part of the machine" and part of a greater cause, as well as saying that the mere knowledge of the item meant Cadmus had to die.
