The House of Borgia was a Spanish/Italian noble family that became prominent during the Renaissance. Notable members of the family include Rodrigo, Cesare and Lucrezia Borgia. The family is known today for their crimes such as theft and murder. During the Renaissance, the Borgia family were the most prominent members of the Knights Templar and also their leader. In 1492 with election of Rodrigo Borgia to pope, the family became the ruling body of the papal state. The city of Rome declined by corruption, theft , murder and oppression. Ezio Auditore Da Firenze became a prominent fighter against the Borgia , and recruited people to the assassins cause. As the power of the Borgias declined, the city of Rome became more renovated and the benefits of art and culture finally arrived. And in 1503 with the death of Pope Alexander VI the Borgia family was wiped out of Rome and Cesare Borgia, the leader of the papal armies, arrested and exiled to Spain. The family lost all of its influence upon the death of Rodrigo Borgia and the succession of Pius III to the Papacy.
