The Altar of Zeus was an grand altar devoted to Zeus located within the Sanctuary of Olympia in Elis, Greece.
According to Greek beliefs, the altar was made of sacrificial ashes mixed with water from the Alpheios River. On the third day of the Olympic Games, 100 oxen were offered and slain by the Eleans, giving them sovereignty over the shrine.[1]
