In Greek mythology, Helios was the god who physically represented the sun. He was often depicted as a charioteer driving the sun across the heavens. In Hellenistic and Roman poetry, the role of sun-god was given to Apollo, although some tellings of classical myths consider Helios and Apollo to be synonymous with each other.
