Hamtun Blockade

The Hamtun Blockade was a Saxon-guarded blockade that was located in southern Hamtunscire.

History

In 878, jarlskona Eivor Varinsdottir of the Raven Clan and Viking leader Guthrum searched the area for his captive men. Locating them, they attacked the Saxon soldiers at the blockade and freed his men. After they freed Guthrum's men, Eivor subsequently destroyed the chain, allowing any ship to pass on the river.[1]
