Grenadiers were specialised units in the British Army employed for extensive work on the frontlines as well as acting as sappers and throwing explosive grenades.

Grenadiers were picked for their height and upper body strength as well as mental disposition to be brave or crazy enough to go out on the frontlines and be able to throw the grenades far enough. As the army evolved grenades were phased out but these tough soldiers were then used as shock troops.

Grenadiers are recognisable by their narrow, tall headwear designed not to obstruct throwing of grenades.

Gameplay

Grenadiers in Assassin's Creed 3 fill the role of the heavy brutes in the other past games. Grenadiers are slow moving and slow attacking but have devastating effects if hit.

Grenadiers are tough and do not break easily and cannot be directly counterattacked or execution streaked. They can have their defence broken easily and can be tripped. This leaves them vulnerable to further attacks.

Grenadiers are equipped with long handled axes (for sapper work) and muskets.

Trivia

  • These brutes appear to be scottish highlanders when in actuality grenadiers consisted of many different units.
