Giuseppe Fortunino Francesco Verdi (1813 – 1901) was an Italian composer best known for his operas.[1]
Khedive Ismail Pasha of Egypt commissioned a new opera from Verdi for the inauguration of the Khedivial Opera House in Cairo, Egypt on 1869, though due to the Franco-Prussian War it could not be completed in time, with Verdi's Rigoletto being performed instead.[2] The commissioned opera, Aida, would debut in the Opera House two years later, in 1871.[3]
