Genghis Khan
Genghis Khan (c. 1162 – 1227) was a Mongolian warlord, born by the name of Temujin. He was the son of a tribal leader, though he became an outcast after his father's death. Temujin united the Mongol tribes and marched on China. He conquered much of central Asia, southern Russia, the middle east, and parts of Eastern Europe. He founded the Mongol Empire, which he reigned from 1206 until his death in 1227.
Genghis survived an assassination attempt during his original campaign in Khwarezmia and in retaliation led a brief offensive against the Assassins. Though the Order quickly recovered.
The Grand Master of the Syrian Assassin sect, Altaïr Ibn-La'Ahad had heard of him and suspected him to wield "The Sword," a Piece of Eden that granted military and combat prowess. He and his family traveled East, where he trained his sons to kill Genghis Khan, as Altaïr himself was too old at the time. In 1227, the Assassin Qulan Gal shot Genghis Khan's horse, causing the warlord to fall off and die.
In real life, In 1227, after defeating the Tangut people, Genghis Khan died (according to The Secret History of the Mongols). The reason for his death is uncertain and speculations abound. Some historians maintain that he fell off his horse during a horseback pursuit from the land of present day Egypt due to battle wounds and physical fatigue, ultimately dying of his injuries. Others contend that he was felled by a protracted illness such as pneumonia. The Galician-Volhynian Chronicle alleges he was killed by the Tanguts in battle. Later Mongol chronicles connect Genghis' death with a Tangut princess taken as war booty. One chronicle from the early 17th century even relates that the princess hid a small pair of pliers inside her vagina, and hurt the Great Khan so badly that he died. Some Mongol authors have doubted this version and suspected it to be an invention by the rival Oirads.(en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Genghis Khan)
Genghis' grandson Hulagu Khan destroyed most of the Assassin's strongholds after a failed assassination in 1256 and effectivly destroyed the Assassin's power in the East.
