Galloglach Helm

The Galloglach Helm was a type of helmet used by mercenaries in Ireland during the 9th century.

During her travels, the Viking shieldmaiden Eivor Varinsdottir of the Raven Clan acquired this helm from a chest in Halstead Outpost, Essexe. Eivor would also acquire the other pieces belonging to the same set of armor.

Behind the scenes

The use of the term galloglach (Irish: "young foreign warriors") in the late 800s is anachronistic, as this type of mercenary was not historically attested until the mid-13th century.
