Galata was one of the four major districts of Constantinople during the Renaissance.

This part of the city technically was still in Europe, however, it resided across the waters of the Golden Horn. The most cosmopolitan district of the city, it was full of varied architecture drawing from Italian, Ottoman, Byzantine, and Greek influences.
