"Cutting through groups of people, he moves towards his target as silent and deadly as a snake. Quickly, he rushes to his victim, brandishes his two knives and plants them into flesh, as if they were fangs. The target falls, the crowd screams, but the Footpad has already vanished."

The Footpad

The Footpad (real name: Lanz) is an unlockable multiplayer character in Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood, who becomes available after the player has has reached level 35. He uses a pair of daggers called Shivs.

Unique Moves

The Second Chancer (High Profile)

The Footpad runs directly at his target and raises one of his Shivs for a high attack, (perhaps in attempt to stab at the head, neck or shoulders) but the target resists and pushes him back. Then, The Footpad ducks down to waist level for another attempt and stabs the lower torso of the target.

Beat Down (Low Profile)

The Footpad approaches his target and than inflicts a rapid sequence of punches to the lower torso, followed by an uppercut to the targets jaw, sending the target's head back. Now the neck is exposed, he brings down his Shivs to the lower neck for the final blow.

The Double Piercing (Low Profile)

The Footpad approaches from behind, grabbing his target by his/her left shoulder, stabbing them in the side of the abdomen twice, the second stab forcing his victim to the floor.

The Swift Slasher (High Profile)

The Footpad runs to his target from behind, slashing them horizontally across their spine, and stabbing them in the left of the abdomen.

Blind and Helpless (Bench Kill)

The Footpad slashes his seated target across the eyes with his right shiv, before spinning the blade around in his hand and stabbing his victim though the throat.

Trivia

  • "Footpad" is an old-fashioned word for thief, but was replaced by the term "Mugger" in the late 15th century.
  • In the Dutch version of the game, the footpad translates to "the highwayman".
  • It is interesting to note that, in the trailer showing the Footpad, he is seen perhaps stealing something from the Barber's waist, before becoming the target of the chase; not unlike the Pickpockets from Assassin's Creed II.
    • Pickpocketing is not an action performable in the mulitplayer. It is unknown how or why this action was performed in the trailer, however, it was most likely cosmetic.
    • The Barber seems to be chasing the Footpad in order to assassinate him, however, the Footpad kills the Barber very shortly afterwards.
  • In the Limited Codex Edition of Assassin's Creed Brotherhood, on the multiplayer character card, there is a spelling mistake: "Cutting through groups of people, he moves towards his target as silent and deadly as a snake. Quickly, he rushes to his victim, brandishes his two knives and plants them into flesh, as if they were fangs. The target falls, the crowd creams, but the Footpad has already vanished."
  • Strangely, the Russian translation of Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood labels him as "Soldier".
  • Lanz is an old Germanic name, meaning that Lanz may possibly be German. If he is German, the fact that his elite gear consists of him wearing a turban barely makes any sense.
  • His shivs have what looks like brass knuckles, which can be why he punches his target in his Beat Down kill animation.
