Eris or Discordia (as she was called in Ancient Rome) was one of Those Who Came Before, worshipped by the Ancient Greeks and Ancient Romans as the goddess of strife and discord.

Eris was the only goddess not invited to the wedding of Peleus and Thetis. After arriving, she went into a rage and threw the Apple of Discord - in fact an Apple of Eden - amongst the goddesses (Athena, Hera, and Aphrodite), marked "To the Fairest", which led to a quarrel between the three. Zeus sent the three to Paris of Troy, who chose Aphrodite to be the fairest. As a reward, Aphrodite had Helen fall in love with Paris and she moved to Troy, which enraged Helen's husband Menelaus and led to the Trojan War.
