Eris or Discordia (as she was called in Ancient Rome) was one of Those Who Came Before, worshipped by the Ancient Greeks and Ancient Romans as the goddess of strife and discord.

Circa the 13th or 12th century, Eris gave the Apple of Discord (the first Apple of Eden), marked for the "fairest", to Athena, Hera, and Aphrodite, which led to a quarrel between the three. Zeus sent the three to Paris of Troy, who chose Aphrodite to be the fairest. As a reward, Aphrodite had Helen fall in love with Paris and she moved to Troy, which enraged Helen's husband Menelaus and led to the Trojan War.
