al-Hadi
Abu Muhammad Musa ibn al-Mahdi al-Hadi (764 – 786), better known by his regnal name al-Hadi, was the fourth caliph of the Abbasid Empire from 785 to 786. He was the son of al-Mahdi and al-Khayzuran and the older brother of Harun al-Rashid.
After ascending to the throne, al-Hadi attempted to curtail his mother's power over the Abbasid court, believing that a woman's place was not in politics, leading to Khayzuran having him killed and replaced with his brother.[1] After his death, the military force in Baghdad, who had backed him, attempted to organize a rebellion against the new caliph, but Khayzuran paid off the guard and quelled the uprising.[2]
