According to legend, Svartalfheim was once flooded by the mythical springs that fed Yggdrasil. King Hreidmar, very much alive and kicking at the time, ordered vast dams to be built.

Further details to the myth allude to statues being built in his honor, which seems a bit self-serving if you ask me. But nonetheless, these dams are magnificent structures, expertly dividing the plentiful waterways of the realm.
