The dao (刀) is a singled-edged Chinese sword that is primarily used for slashing and chopping.[1]
History[edit | edit source]
In 47 BCE, a Chinese female gladiator known only as "The Duelist" worked in the gladiator arena in Cyrene and equipped herself with poisonous twin dao. When the Egyptian Hidden Ones eventually marked her for assassination, their co-founder and leader Bayek of Siwa entered the arena and defeated her in combat.[2]
During the Tang dynasty, military personnel and officials wielded their own dao, especially during the civil war, the An Lushan Rebellion.[3]
In the Ming dynasty, the Chinese Assassins' Mentor Wang Yangming wielded his own personal dao as part of his arsenal.[4]
During the Golden Age of Piracy, the French pirate Alonzo Batilla collected a dao as part of his numerous treasures that he acquired from naval combat.[5]
