By the early 18th century, the Canary Islands were a popular stopping point for trans-Atlantic travelers and traders,[1] as well as a popular location for European Jesuits and missionaries due to their churches.[2] Welsh pirate Edward Kenway traded with the city on a muber of occasions.[1][2][3]
