Augusta Ada King, Countess of Lovelace (née Byron), best known as Ada Lovelace, was an English mathematician, translator and writer. Known for her work on Charles Babbage's proposed mechanical computer, she is often regarded as the first computer programmer.[1]

In 1851, during the Great Exhibition, she was rescued from a gang of thugs by Pierette, an acrobat.[2]
