A brazier is a container used to burn solid fuel, such as wood or charcoal, for a sustained flame which is often used for heating or cooking. It often takes the form of a metal box or bowl with feet.

In 5th century BCE Greece, during the Peloponnesian War, as well as in 1st century BCE Ptolemaic Egypt and Roman Cyrenaica, brazier were used by the respective militaries as a way to call for reinforcements, should their bases ever be attacked. However, construction of these braziers were fairly flimsy and allowed for them be sabotaged to explode if lit.
