A bisento is a Japanese polearm characterized by a long, heavy, curved blade mounted on a staff, resembling the Chinese Guandao.

Description

The Japanese-style glaive known as the bisento is composed of a curved blade, akin to that of a scimitar, attached to a long shaft. Though it resembles the Guandao, it differs from its Chinese counterpart by its longer blade which was not quite as broad, yet still quite heavy.

The bisento adopted by the Parisian Brotherhood of Assassins were of particularly ornate design, boasting a highly-stylized golden guard for the blade, complete with a protruding rear spike.

History

Despite its Japanese origin, the bisento was employed by the Parisian Brotherhood of Assassins during the French Revolution.

Trivia

• The Japanese name bisentō (眉尖刀) literally translates to "brow sharp blade".
• The bisento features as a weapon in Assassin's Creed: Unity, where it can be unlocked by collecting all artifacts in the Les Invalides district.
