Bear-Claw was a bearded axe utilized by Norse berserkrs in the 9th century. Inspired by the polar bears that roamed Norway, the axe featured a stylized bear head carved from a large claw on the butt of the axe head, and had three smaller claws embedded into the shaft.
During the Viking expansion into England, the axe was made available to the shieldmaiden Eivor Varinsdottir of the Raven Clan through an Animus modification by Layla Hassan, an Assassin who relieved her memories.[1]
