They said it won't be yearly releases. Assassin's Creed II had around 2 years of development, it turned out great. Assassin's Creed III has had 3 years of development, it looks great. Now they won't be under "pressure" to do yearly releases and they can do whatever they want and explore whatever time period they want next. I don't see why you're so scared.
If there is to be a "AC3.5", it will have more time to be developed. Honestly, Brotherhood and Revelations had great concepts but lack of time did not allow them to reach their full potential. They won't have this problem with any continuation of Assassin's Creed III, so I don't understand the pessimism.
