Christ, if you can't see any improvement then you seriously lack imagination. I'll enlighten you then. Climbing, free running, whatever. They can easily add new features to that and mechanics to make it look more fluent. Enemies, more enemy archetypes can be added. Perhaps enemies that can also dual weild and give them different weapons, such as a mace (the chain ones).

If they have a game set in China during the 13th Century, they can give enemies a ton of new weapons, such as Nest of Bees. If they did one in Japan, think of the possibilities of fighting a shinobi. Also graphics. They can use better graphics for future games.

More attention to detail. If that statement confuses, take a look at the Uncharted games, because the attention to detail in those games is amazing, from the characters, the environment, everything. Same can be done with future Assassin's Creed games. There, severals ways they can improve future games. You are pessimistic and seem to lack imagination.

They can, and probably will, top Assassin's Creed III in terms of gameplay in future titles. The story? We have no idea how good it is, but I'm sure they can still outdo it.
