On your second point they have two options either run in and die as did two others, or stand back, shoot and live. what i'm trying to say is that this is realistic. A man who is trained for long range combat isn't going to want to get up close and personal with a guy who is armed to the teeth, appeared out of nowhere and killed two of your buddies in a couple of seconds.
