Yeah, I forgot that Emilio Barbarigo wasn't the Doge. Anyway, just see in the case of Savanarola. This guy was the reason why Lorenzo died, the reason why the woman he loved died and put Florence into Chaos. He was burning and Ezio jumped into the fire and killed him, saying that he didn't deserved the pain. Then, he made a speech totally about Renascence.

What I'm saying is. Of course he wanted revenge. Who wouldn't? But it WASN'T his main reason to keep going foward. He knew what he needed to do, and never fucked up for anyone (At least in AC2). In Venice, he could sprinted and killed Rodrigo, but instead he tailed and discovered the plan and choose to help Antonio against the conspirators. People was like "Connor is about freedom". Bullshit. The game is all about "Give me Lee!!!". Washington was the guy behind his village burndown. What he did? "Oh, I will ignore this and chase Charles anyway".

So yeah, even if is "fake" what Ezio did for his enemies, he never put his revenge in front of ANYTHING. And this is why he is the most loved character of Assassin's Creed.
