Abstergo has allowed people to access the genetic memories of people who aren't related to you for a while now.


The devices that let you relive these memories are basically really good computers.


Sometimes computers glitch out and fuck up.


The animus thingy they're using has clearly fucked up and has placed the person controlling Arno into the wrong time period.


Stop saying "Wtf ubisoft omg i have given up on you". People are either complaining that things are staying the same, or they're complaining that things change. Grow up and stop whining about every little thing.
