Maybe they have excavated it, and Desmond has to use the predatory skills along with Eagle Vision to sneak through the shadows and take out Templars along the way. Also, considering that each Temple had different approaches to saving humanity, some rock-climbing and trees might be in there if it's a sustained natural area by the TWCB.
