Leonius

Leonius was a male Assassin living in Italy during Emperor Caligula's rule.

Biography

Leonius was a member of the Italian Assassin's Guild. The Emperor of the Roman Empire, Gaius Julius Caesar Augustus Germanicus, commonly referred to as Caligula, was a tyrant and the land had to be freed of him. On 24 January, 41 A.D. Leonius stabbed Caligula, killing him.

During the Renaissance, Leonius' sarcophagus was moved to Venice, Italy, in the Santa Maria della Visitazione. The Assassin Ezio Auditore explored Leonius' tomb and took the hidden seal from his sarcophagus, which would help him to later obtain Altaïr Ibn-La'Ahad's armor.

• In real history, Caligula was assassinated by Cassius Chaerea, a member of the Praetorian Guard, in AD 41.
• Leonius is a fictional character of the Assassin's Creed series, who - due to similarity in name - is commonly mistaken among newcomer fans of the series as the spartan Leonidus of the movie 300.
• His unusual bald appearance is similar to the portrayal of Longinus, Caligula's advisor and murderer, in the 1979 film Caligula.
