Brother Almund was an Anglo-Saxon monk and baker at Medeshamstede Abbey, England in the 9th century.

Biography

At some point in his life, Almund joined the priesthood as a monk and found himself at the newly founded monastery at Medeshamstede, under Abbot Torthred. Working as a baker, he and his fellow monks soon came across a wounded Viking, Geirmund Hel-hide. Luckily, Torthred recognized him and welcomed him and Geirmund's company, the Hel-hides, under the condition of protection. Almund and the other monks continued their routines under the Hel-hides' protection. However, after some days, they all learned that the peace between Saxons and Danes was broken.[1]

Consequently, Torthred soon learned that his sister Tova was captured by Krok Uxiblóð, who came to the monastery and demanded a ransom. Within the next day, Almund joined Torthred with three other monks to meet Krok's warriors and Tova to exchange the ransom for her. However, the three other monks happened to be Geirmund, Rafn, and Vetr, who killed the Krok's warriors and freed Tova. Racing back to Medeshamstede, Almund joined his fellow monks and left the monastery after thanking Geirmund for the rescue.[2]
