Dual-wielding was a form of combat, wherein one used a pair of weapons in conjunction with one another. This was often to allow an easy shift between long and short-ranged attacks.

History

Assassins of the High Middle Ages were only able to dual-wield throwing knives alongside the short blade.[1] However, during the Renaissance, Ezio Auditore da Firenze was able to dual-wield multiple combinations of weapons.[2]

Other than the throwing knives and short blade pair, Ezio could also wield the Hidden Gun with any primary, medium-ranged weapon - such as swords and maces - and poison darts with the poison blade.[2] He could also dual-wield a variety of bombs with his primary weapon.[3]

During the American Revolutionary War, Connor Kenway would always dual-wield his weapons in combat.[4] Additionally, unlike Ezio, he was able to use two similarly ranged weapons (such as the short blade and tomahawk) together. Yet another addition, Connor will be able to switch between two melee weapons, a melee weapons and a flintlock pistol, and two flintlock pistols.[5]

Only a few enemies, such as the Papal Guard, Cesare Borgia,[2] and the Janissaries,[3] were able to dual-wield; using a short pistol alongside a longsword in combat.[2]
