This is a good idea. Maybe he is plagued by Precursor Technology, and the Assassin you're playing as needs to figure out what was done to him. Lke a detective sort of thing. 

I really have a feeling that AC Victory will be a detective/spy-style Assassin's Creed.

Victorian James Bond?

Also, since its the Industrial Revolution, there must be some technology involved with Assassin equipment.
