Swansea
Swansea is a city on the southern coast of Wales.
History
Edward Kenway was born and raised in Swansea in 1693 to parents Bernard and Linette. The family later relocated to a farm in Bristol, England when he was 10 years old.[1] In Kenway's early years as a privateer he had witnessed far more violence on board the Emperor than anything he'd seen before in his seventeen years, even from anything he remembered of his birthplace.[2] By 1715, after being caught for piracy, Kenway was imprisoned on board the El Dorado. Eventually freeing himself and Adéwalé, Kenway took control of the vessel and renamed her the Jackdaw after a bird from his birthplace.[3] In July 1719, when Kenway first found out about Bartholomew Roberts he compared him to himself, the former born in Swansea, the latter in Casnewydd Bach.[4] In November 1720, Kenway imprisoned in Kingston was met by the Tenplar Woodes Rogers who recounted Kenway's history to him, including his birth in Swansea.[5]
