Yeah, considering it continues Desmond's story it shouldn't be seen as a spin-off, but if it isn't, why isn't it called Assassin's Creed III? I think they just wanted to create a fourth one, without claiming that AC won't be a trilogy. And their only excuse is that it still has Ezio in it, and not a new ancestor.
