You have no idea how much the Crusades keep coming up in religious debates (with the Inquisition). I'm fairly sure the Crusades are one of the only things people know about the Middle Ages, along with the Templars.

Just because you know of two people in an era doesn't mean you know the era itself.

The only era you posted that I think most people would consider common knowledge is the American Revolution. Just take a day to walk up to random people and ask them how much they know about the American Revolution or Golden Age of Piracy compared to the Crusades or the Renaissance.

Dude, maybe in the States, but here in my history classes, we passed more times talking about the Middle Ages, Renaissance, and the French Revolution then the American Revolution. I know few people who know anything beyond the Boston Tea Party, the Declaration of Independance on July 4th, the Constitution, and George Washington being the 1st President. This applies to the Golden Age of Piracy as well, Blackbeard being the only famous pirate here.
