The Abenaki are a people indigenous to North America.
History
The Abenaki is considered to originate in Northern England and southern Canadian Maritimes. The name also refers to groups like Algonquin and names similar to it.
Each Abenaki clans would join together in times of crisis, but, as they had no central authority, their land was occupied by British Colonists.
During the French and Indian War, they tried to remain neutral, but they failed and caused a conflict. One that made them side with the French.
Trivia
- A man who aided Haytham Kenway and Kaniehtí:io on the Braddock Expedition to eliminate Edward Braddock was of Abenaki origins.
