- "For the first time in several decades, the Assassins have a strong presence here. It wasn't always that way."

The Eradication of the Templar Agents was a series of events in which Ezio Auditore da Firenze and individuals of the Constantinople Assassin Order assassinated key Templars within the city and thus freed Constantinople from Templar rule. Each assassination began with an apprentice, training to become a Master Assassin, who approached Ezio with pleas for aid, advice or for further tutoring.
The apprentices proceeded to go on covert missions with their mentor in which they were given special training that was only given to Assassins destined to become Den Leaders.

The Sentinel[edit | edit source]
- "Mentor, we have a problem. A great many Assassins have disappeared in recent months, and I believe I know why."
- ―An Apprentice discusses the actions of the Sentinel with Ezio.[src]
During the year of 1511, Ezio Auditore assigned one of the Assassin apprentices recruited from Constantinople to an Assassin Den in the hope of training it to become a Master Assassin in wisdom and skill. The apprentice sensed something wrong within their district after some time of controlling and protecting the local Assassin affairs and confronted Ezio with the information. Together they walked through the district, discussing the disappearances of several Assassins in the past months.

The Apprentice proceeded to a park where he assassinated two guards with double Hidden Blades and hid within a cart of hay; Ezio brought a speedy death to another two guards, calling upon nearby Assassins to silently assassinate a guard that stood out of Ezio's range. After the elder Assassin joined his companion next to the haystack, he asked the apprentice to watch for danger while he searched the area for clues as to a vague sense of approaching danger.
While Ezio used his Eagle Vision to study an Assassin corpse on a nearby bench and a puddle of blood from a possible second murder, a cloaked figure used an aerial strike on a crossbowman nearby, wearing the same style and outfit of an Italian Assassin. This action alerted both men on the ground, forcing Ezio to order his Apprentice to follow the killer. The apprentice took to the rooftops and followed his Mentor as the man chased the Sentinel through the narrow streets.

Ezio and the fleeing murderer threw insults at one another until the apprentice attempted to assassinate him from above, having managed to overtake both men. The Sentinel avoided the attack by dodging backwards and used the sudden appearance of a handful of guards as a diversion for his escape, activating a smoke bomb as he turned defiantly to his hunters. Ezio commanded his apprentice not to try to hunt such a dangerous opponent until he had been properly trained to a higher level of skill.
Ezio strode along the docks of Constantinople, having arranged a meeting with one of his personal apprentices within the local market. Once together, the two men discussed the sudden kidnapping of two Assassins by the infamous Vali, otherwise known as The Sentinel. The Templars wished to have the Assassin Headquarters given to them in exchange for the captured Assassins' safety, but Ezio declared that they did not make deals with hostage-takers. He and his apprentice quickly rushed off to find and rescue the captured allies before some harm was done to them.
Ezio discovered the first hostage before his apprentice and used the aid of thieves to lure the guarding Janissaries far from the ailing Assassin. He rapidly freed the prisoner and escaped before he was noticed by patrolling guards. Luckily, the second hostage was being held along a nearby alleyway, and Ezio was able to use a second group of thieves to free a path to the Assassin.

Unfortunately, upon freeing the young woman, she bade him to forget her safety and to fly to the Assassin Headquarters; Vali had used the capture of his former colleagues in order to fool the local Assassins into diverting their energies elsewhere, leaving the Headquarters almost unguarded. Ezio understood the implications of this immediately and dashed towards the Assassin Den, ignoring his previous need for secrecy.
The Sentinel stood upon a rooftop near the Galata Tower, watching Ezio run towards him. He admitted the wily cunning of the Assassin Mentor, but claimed that a single man could not save a city and began to flee along the streets, having no buildings upon which to use in his escape. Ezio's apprentice, having met with Ezio during this encounter, assured his Mentor that he would follow the Templar from the rooftops in case of an opportunity to assassinate him.
Ezio hared after the Sentinel, catching up on some ground as they dashed through street after street; unfortunately for the former Assassin, Ezio's apprentice dived upon him from above, successfully driving their Hidden Blade deep into Vali's heart. The Templar confessed with his dying breath that the Creed had once been more important to him than air or water; yet the failure of the Creed to protect his home and family was too terrific a blow for him to withstand. Ezio's apprentice wished him peace as the Sentinel died.
The Deacon[edit | edit source]
- "Ah yes, we have heard those rumors, too. And the name behind them is always Cyril of Rhodes."
- ―Informant clergyman near the docks.[src]
The apprentice stationed at the second Assassin Den in Constantinople had become aware of several troubling rumours within their district; recognizing the information for the possible threat it could be, they immediately notified Ezio. According to the apprentice, the danger was a threat to the life of the Orthodox Patriarch of the city; a priest had stated his intentions for murder. Ezio considered the situation and declared that they needed a name before they could act; it would be a very damaging move to the Assassin Order's reputation if they were to kill every holy man in the country.
The apprentice and mentor searched the docks for a clergyman, deciding that it would suit their interests more to bribe the man for information. Ezio instantly recognized the clergyman they were searching for, without having to use his unique abilities. Their informant was eager to help and provided the Assassins with a name for their true quarry; Cyril of Rhodes. The deacon had been cast out by the Patriarch due to misdeeds several years earlier, and was now seeking his revenge with the help of his new Templar allies.

Ezio and his apprentice walked together to a meeting of priests; the apprentice expressed excitement and enthusiasm for his task, climbing to the rooftops to better view his chosen target. Ezio found the Deacon in the midst of the crowd, but his apprentice struck down an innocent man accidentally, causing their target to flee without harm. The Grand Master Assassin berated his charge for brashness and foolishness before ordering him to dump the body in the bay. The apprentice admitted his great guilt and shame before being dismissed to meditate on his mistake.
