Ezio Auditore da Firenze (born 1459) was a Florentine noble during the Italian Renaissance and, unbeknownst to most historians and philosophers, a central member and Grand Master of the Assassin's Order. A descendant of Altaïr Ibn-La'Ahad and ancestor to both Desmond Miles and Subject 16, Ezio was unaware of his Assassin heritage until the age of 17, when hisfather and two brothers, Federico and Petruccio, were murdered. Ezio fled Florence – his birthplace – and took refuge at the Villa Auditore in the Tuscan town of Monteriggioni.

Learning of his heritage from his uncle, Mario Auditore, Ezio begun his Assassin training, as well as his quest for vengeance against the Grand Master of the Templar Order, Rodrigo Borgia, who had ordered the executions of his father and two brothers. During his quest, Ezio managed to not only unite the pages of Altaïr's Codex for the first time since Domenico Auditore, but also to save the cities of Florence, Venice, and later Rome from theTemplars' wrath. He ensured the future travels of Christoffa Corombo to the "New World" and, in liberating Rome from Borgia control, helped spread the Renaissance and Assassin ideals of independence and free thought throughout Italy.

Shortly before the death of Rodrigo Borgia in 1503, Ezio was pronounced the Grand Master, or "ll Mentore", of the Assassin Order.

Claudia Auditore da Firenze was born in Florence, the daughter ofGiovanni and Maria Auditore da Firenze and sister to Federico,Ezio and Petruccio.

In 1476, Giovanni, Federico and Petruccio were executed as they were accused of treason against Florence. In fact, they were executed by the Templars, the sworn enemies of the Assassins, the latter of whom her father was a member of. Following this, her brother Ezio exacted revenge on Uberto Alberti, the city's Gonfalioniere, and left Florence with Claudia and their mother. They fled to Monteriggioni, the city ruled over by their uncleMario.

Although Ezio at first meant only to stay in Monteriggioni for a day, he decided it was best to stay at the Villa Auditore so that he could finish his father's work

Leonardo di ser Piero da Vinci (April 15, 1452 – May 2, 1519) was an Italian polymath: painter, sculptor, architect, musician, scientist, mathematician, engineer, inventor, anatomist, geologist, botanist, writer, and best friend of the Assassin Ezio Auditore in the Italian Renaissance.

Caterina Sforza (1463 - 28 May 1509) was the Countess of Forlìand Imola and the daughter of Galeazzo Maria Sforza. She married the Pope's nephew, Girolamo Riario, at only 14 years of age.

The Pazzi Conspiracy was an attempt by the Pazzi Family, who was under the influence of the Templar Order, to remove the House of Medici from power in the city ofFlorence. Led by Rodrigo Borgia, the coup brought Florence into a brief period of civil war, and nearly took the life of the city's ruler, Lorenzo de' Medici.

Girolamo Savonarola (21 September 1452 - 23 May 1498) was a Dominican friar and the leader of Florence from 1494 to 1498.
