Ōuchi Yoshitaka (大内 義隆, 1507 – 1551) was a Japanese daimyō who lived in Yamaguchi.[1] Ōuchi was visited by the Jesuit priest Francis Xavier twice, the first as the missionary went to Kyoto. In this visit, with Xavier dressed frugally, Ōuchi did not treat him well because of his poor appearance. As Xavier returned from Kyoto, he put on very expensive clothes and visited Ōuchi's court again, this time being very well received and gifting many objects from Portugal. Pleased with Xavier, Ōuchi gave the Jesuits permission to preach their gospel in his domains.[2]
