William Dampier (1651 – 1715) was an English navigator, explorer, and pirate, as well as the first person to circumnavigate the world three times.[1]
In 1707, Dampier suggested to Woodes Rogers that he set out on a privateering expedition in the Americas.[2] Also in the early 18th century, a map used by Dampier was found by fellow pirate Alonzo Batilla, who counted it among his treasures.[1]
