William Blaxton (later spelled Blackstone; 1595 – 1675) was an Anglican priest, early British settler in New England and the first European settler in modern-day Boston and Rhode Island.
In 1625, he settled at what would became Boston Common and Beacon Hill. As Boston started to grow, Blaxton decided to move somewhere more remote, selling the land to the growing city for £30. It was turned into common land, giving it its name.[1]
