Wilf was a 9th century Anglo-Saxon bandit from Ledecestrescire, England.
Biography
Before the 870s, Wilf found a young man named Guthban, who had recently lost his mother. Raising him to be a strongman of his group, they swindled and cheated civilians out of their belongings and lives. However, Guthban realized the errors of his life and left the bandits under the name "Tarben" to find a new home, which later happened to be Ravensthorpe. In the 870s, Wilf wanted his strongman back, and after hearing of Tarben's success in the new settlement, he robbed Tekla and said he wanted to meet Guthban.[1]
When Tarben and his clan's shieldmaiden Eivor Varinsdottir met Wilf outside his hideout, Eivor told him to release Tarben from his former bandit duties. Wilf protested, saying he could only do that if the two newcomers retrieved his goods that soldiers from Glen Ford Camp had taken. After some time, Eivor and Tarben returned with his property. Wilf, thankful of their aid, gave Tarben the ledger as promised while offering Eivor a place as a thief in his group. Disgusted with the whole affair and at Wilf's proposal of a dishonest living, Eivor spat on him before leaving.[1]
