Pope Urban II (c. 1035 – 1099), otherwise known as Odo of Châtillon or Otho de Lagery, was Pope and bishop of Rome from 12 March 1088 to his death.

In 1096, Urban II initiated the First Crusade with the objective of recovering what is known as the Holy Land from Muslim rule.[1]
