Arthur Wellesley, 1st Duke of Wellington (1 May 1769 – 14 September 1852) was a Field Marshal in the British Army best known for his defeat of Napoleon at the Battle of Waterloo. He later served as Prime Minister of the United Kingdom from 1828 to 1830 and in 1834.

An equestrian statue of Wellington was unveiled in London in 1844.
