Toulon is a city in southern France.
Despite the generally poor condition of the French Navy at the turn of the 18th century, under Louis XIV of France, powerful ships such as L'Amazone were built in the port of Toulon.[1]
In 1711, during the War of the Spanish Succession, the French Admiral Jacques Cassard set sail from Toulon to the Caribbean, embarking on an expedition.[1]
During the French Revolution, the city was under the control of the Royalists and the British Army. Between september and December, the French Republic Army asieged Toulon. One of his captain, Napoleon Bonaparte, organized a successful plan to take over an artillery battery. After that the British Army flew the city and Bonaparte became famous for his tactical skills.[2]
