The Torre Grossa, also known as Great Tower, was a landmark that stood next to the Palazzo Comunale in the town square of San Gimignano. While it was the town's tallest structure, it also contained the Assassin Tomb of Wei Yu.
The tower was built in 1300 and finished in 1311. It was also known for containing a bell inside unlike the other towers in the city.[1]
Trivia
- Despite being the tallest tower in San Gimignano, it did not have a viewpoint located at its peak.
