Shipment of tobacco

Tobacco is a common plant from the Nicotiana genus and the Solanaceae family. The dried leaves are smoked in things, such as cigarettes or smoking pipes.

During the 17th century, tobacco was sold as a commodity by several privateers. Shipments of it were also handled by the Royal Navy and the French Navy.[1] It was later smoked in cigars during the American Revolutionary War.[2]

Recreational use of tobacco continued through the Industrial Revolution into World War I,[3] and beyond into the modern era.[4][5]
