The Darkness was the name given to an Indian Assassin facility and headquarters located in Amritsar, India, during the 19th century. A series of small, underground chambers located beneath the main meeting room of the Amritsar Brotherhood, the Darkness served as both a storage facility for documents and an armory.
History
In the mid-19th century, rumours spread that the Darkness was a plotting chamber and an interrogation room for captured enemies due to its crepuscular atmosphere and prison-like architecture. It was also said that a baby had been born in the dungeon.
In 1860, Jayadeep Mir, an Assassin who had failed a recent mission due to what was perceived as a display of dangerous incompetence, was imprisoned at the Darkness. The facility's custodian, Ajay, became his jailor until the young man's planned execution. When Jayadeep's mentor Ethan Frye, a British Assassin, received word about his student's fate, he traveled to India and arrived at the Darkness to interrogate Jayadeep. Learning that the reason for his student's failure was his hesitation to take a life, Ethan was ultimately able to negotiate a deal to have Jayadeep banished to England instead.
