The Cowl Does Not Make The Monk is a memory in Assassin's Creed II.
Description
When Ezio arives outside the Monte Oliveto Maggiore and talks to one of Mario's mercenaries, the mercenary provides him some smoke bombs and Ezio enters the abbey. Ezio used his eagle vision to identify who among the many monks were disguised guards, as well as who was his target, Stefano da Bagnone, before moving in for the kill. While Stefano walked, he spoke to another monk about the existence of God, whom Stefano didn't believe in. When Ezio assassinated Stefano, he told him that Jacopo de' Pazzi and the other Templars would meet in the shadow of the Roman gods. Ezio then used a smoke bomb to escape.
Outcome
- Stefano da Bagnone is assassinated
- Ezio received smoke bombs.
Script
Pre-mission
- Mercenary: Ezio! We've found Stefano da Bagone! Just follow this road and it will take you to the Abbey where he's taken refuge. Wait! Take these (Smoke Bombs) you can use them to create a distraction.
Pre-Assassination
- Monk: Let us pray, Brother.
- Stefano: Pray? Pray for what?
- Monk: The Lord's protection!
- Stefano: If you think "the Lord" has any interest in our affairs, then you've another thing coming but by all means, continue to delude yourself if it helps pass the time.
- Monk: But the Bible says--
- Stefano: If one word of that book is true, the book which claims there is an invisible madman in the sky, then He's clearly lost his mind.
- (Insulted pause)
- Monk: I forgive your forked tongue.
- Stefano: Yes, now shut up while I keep watch.
- Monk: Watch for what?
- Stefano: The Assassino.
- Monk: The monstrousity!
- Stefano: At least on one thing we can agree.
- Monk: They say... They say that the Devil has granted him superhuman powers.
- Stefano: What? No, he has given himself these, through training. It is surprising how unwilling you are to attribute accomplishments to the person who has achieved them.
Final Words
- Ezio: Where is Jacopo?
- Stefano: Nothing to fear, I suppose... they meet in the shadow of the Roman Gods.
- Ezio: E qui libro esta dura, non paine. Requiescat en Pace(Faith should bring comfort, not pain. Rest in Peace)'.
