Armor of Brutus

The Armor of Brutus was a virtually unbreakable set of armor, once in the possession of the Assassin Marcus Junius Brutus. It was one of the strongest armors of the Renaissance era, accompanied by the Armor of Ishak Pasha and Master Assassin Armor, and was found alongside the Dagger of Brutus.

The armor was stolen and treasured by the Followers of Romulus, who sealed it within a gate locked by six keys. After he had obtained these keys, the armor came into the possession of another Assassin, Ezio Auditore.

Appearance

The armor looks much heavier and bulkier than Ezio's Master Assassin robes, due to the fur cloak that is padded along the pauldron and around the neck of the hood. It is unknown when the fur was added, but it may have been a tribute to Romulus by his Followers. It should be noted that when in water the fur disappears, leaving a dark patch.

There is a silver eagle on the right shoulder that holds the cape on, as well as on the waist area where the Assassin insignia is on Ezio's other outfits. A second insignia is engraved onto the back of the armor.

The armor comes with a gray, short-sleeved robe that is worn underneath the breastplate. The bottom of the robes are in three layers, each one on top of the other, and come down to Ezio's knees. However, these layers act in a similar fashion to a kilt, completely covering the legs, whereas the Master Assassin robes part at the sides and front-to-back to keep movement unencumbered. This does not seem to affect Ezio's mobility, however.

The armor set consists of both metal and leather. The chest armor and spaulders are mostly metal, but the left spaulder appears to be made out of a light type of stone, while the vambraces and greaves are completely leather. The vambraces and greaves are also very plain-looking pieces of armor, having very little design compared to the rest of the armor. Unlike other purchasable vambraces, the Vambraces of Brutus come in a set of two, for both Ezio's left and right arms.

The hood and cape appear to be connected, with both dyed red with a golden trim. There is no detail on the hood itself, and is more rounded in shape, with a similar appearance to Altaïr's hood.

The armor of Brutus was named after its initial possessor, Marcus Junius Brutus, the Assassin responsible for killing Julius Caesar. It was an heirloom of his family, but it is unclear exactly when the armor was forged and by whom.

Since it has similar properties to the Armor of Altaïr, this implies the creator used information gained from an Apple of Eden in order to create it. In his scrolls, Brutus revealed that he himself held a Piece of Eden, although it is unclear whether Brutus used that information to modify an existing set of armor.

Before his death, Brutus hid his armor away in a secret location, which was apparently found and then protected by the Followers of Romulus. The Followers were told by their leaders that the armor to have been worn by their deified patron Romulus, and kept the keys to the armor's cage within each of their six secret lairs spread throughout the city of Rome.

Upon encountering the Followers in the ruins of Nero's Golden Palace, and reading the first scroll of Brutus, Ezio sought out the other keys, and eventually obtained the armor of Brutus.

Trivia

• The armor heavily resembles an outfit worn by the fictional character Maximus Decimus Meridius in the film Gladiator. Notice that Maximus' armor has a shape resembling the Assassin's insignia at the bottom of the breastplate.
• Like the armor of Altaïr, the Armor of Brutus has 25 health diamonds, and cannot be dyed or broken.
• The armor does not display the hidden gun nor poison blade on the attire's wrists; however, this does not affect Ezio's ability to use these weapons. Also, while wearing the armor, the Climb Leap Glove does not appear, though its function likewise remains.
• When reliving memories after the armor has been acquired, it replaces Ezio Auditore's armor if the memory does not have Ezio's current armor available at the Blacksmiths.
• The original concept for the armor was created by Vincent Gaigneux.
• In Assassin's Creed: Revelations, the Armor of Brutus can be used as a playable skin in singleplayer. In the PlayStation 3 (PS3) version, the player must have a PlayStation Network account in order to purchase the skin, but is not required to have an internet connection to use it, and by extension not required to be logged into his or her PlayStation Network account (PSN) to use it either.
• It is unknown what happens to the Armor of Brutus after the events of Brotherhood, as Ezio was not wearing it upon his arrival in Masyaf. Neither Ezio nor any other character in the series was known to mention the armor after the conclusion of Brotherhood.
