Tammany Hall was a political organization located in New York City and founded soon after the American Revolutionary War. As a political organization, they acted as a lobbyist group for the Democratic Party and sought to provide support for Irish immigrants. By the American Civil War the society had been taken over by the Templar Order and their Grand Master, William M. Tweed.
